Roughly 6 months ago, the people at Ultimate Gadget Laboratories were nice enough to send me their Ultimate Hacking Keyboard for review. For various reasons, doing a video on the ‘keeb got pushed back several months. The upside is that I can now add my long-term thoughts to what would have otherwise been mostly an unboxing and setup video.
Long story short, the quality of the device is fantastic, and while my test methodology is perhaps questionable, I saw double-digit percentage increases in my typing speed! At $320 + options as of this writing, it is expensive, but if it saves you an appreciable amount of time each day, then the price could be well worth it.
Further Computing Equipment Thoughts
Interestingly, my first interaction with the UHK was in 2021. While I didn’t get one at the time, this–and possibly an incorrect initial understanding of what it did–was part of the inspiration to create my JC Pro Macro 2 keypad. Both work very well for me in tandem, and I especially value my JCPM2 for video editing and quick media control.
While neither device is trivial cost-wise, but I believe each has far exceeded their sticker prices in value. Other items on my desk that are nominally expensive, but I believe worth the price include: a Logitech MX Ergo wireless trackball, as well as a 32 inch 4K monitor. A large monitor is especially helpful for productivity, as it allows me to have lots of stuff open at the same time.
